Shiroda Velagar Beach
Beach · Vengurla, Sindhudurg
A long, peaceful beach at Shiroda in the south of Vengurla taluka, close to the Goa border.
Shiroda, in the south of Vengurla taluka, is the last stretch of the Maharashtra coast before Goa. Its beach, Velagar, is long and open, with clean sand, casuarina groves and very few crowds compared with the Goa beaches a short drive away.
The village has a quiet charm, with old houses, coconut and cashew plantations and small temples. Aravali's Vetoba temple and Redi's Ganpati temple and fort are nearby, so Shiroda makes a good base for exploring the southern tip of Sindhudurg.
There are homestays and a few resorts around Shiroda, and Goa's northern beaches such as Querim and Arambol are close across the border.
The sea can be rough away from the shore. Swim only in calm, shallow water and never in the monsoon.
