Swayambhu Ganpati Temple, Redi

Temple · Vengurla, Sindhudurg

A temple at Redi near the Goa border, built around a large Ganesh idol that was found in the ground.

Redi is a coastal village at the southern tip of Sindhudurg, close to the Goa border. It is known for its Ganpati temple, built around a large stone idol of Lord Ganesh that local people say was found while digging in the area, which is why it is called Swayambhu, or self-manifested.

The idol is unusually large and is worshipped by devotees from Sindhudurg and Goa. The temple is especially busy on Sankashti Chaturthi and during Ganeshotsav.

Redi also has the Yashwantgad fort and a beach, and the Shiroda and Aravali area is close by, so the temple is often part of a day along the southern coast.

Follow the temple's customs: dress modestly and remove footwear before entering.
