Yashwantgad Fort, Redi

Fort · Vengurla, Sindhudurg

An old coastal fort at Redi, overlooking the sea and the creek near the Maharashtra and Goa border.

Yashwantgad stands on high ground at Redi, guarding the coast and the creek at the southern end of Sindhudurg. Its position near the old boundary between Maratha and Portuguese territory made it important, and it changed hands more than once over the centuries.

Today the fort is in ruins, with thick laterite walls and gateways partly hidden by trees and creepers. Exploring it feels like walking through a forgotten fortress, and the views of the sea and the Redi coast are worth the walk.

The fort is close to the Redi Ganpati temple and the Shiroda beach, so it is easy to combine them.

The ruins are overgrown and uneven, so go in daylight, wear good shoes and take care near broken walls.
