Nivati Fort and Beach
Fort · Kudal, Sindhudurg
The ruins of a hill fort on a headland above Nivati village, with wide views of the sea, the Vengurla rocks and the beaches below.
Nivati fort stands on a rocky headland above the fishing village of Nivati, on the coast of Kudal taluka. Only parts of its walls and bastions remain, but the climb is short and the reward is one of the finest coastal views in Sindhudurg.
From the top you can see the curve of the Nivati beach, the rocky islets offshore and, on clear days, the Vengurla rocks out at sea. Below the fort, Nivati is a working fishing village with boats coming and going from its small harbour.
The beach below the fort is quiet and good for an evening walk, and Bhogwe beach is close by. Many visitors combine the fort, Nivati and Bhogwe in one trip.
The path up to the fort is uneven and can be slippery, so wear good footwear and avoid the climb in heavy rain.
Best time to visit
October to May; monsoon views are beautiful but the path is slippery.
