Rameshwar Temple, Achara

Temple · Malvan, Sindhudurg

An old temple of Lord Shiva at Achara, known for its large courtyard, traditional Konkan architecture and village festivals.

The Rameshwar temple is the main temple of Achara village, dedicated to Lord Shiva as Rameshwar. It is one of the well-known old temples of the Malvan area and an important place for the people of Achara and the villages around it.

The temple follows the traditional Konkan style, with a wide courtyard, sloping tiled roofs, carved wooden pillars and a lamp tower (deepmal). The calm surroundings, with trees and old stone paths, make it a pleasant stop even for visitors who are not on a pilgrimage.

Like many Konkan temples, Rameshwar is the centre of village life during festivals such as Mahashivratri, when lamps are lit and the courtyard fills with devotees and traditional performances.

Dress modestly, remove footwear before entering, and ask before taking photographs inside.
