Padmagad Fort, Malvan

Fort · Malvan, Sindhudurg

A small fort on a rocky island between Malvan and Sindhudurg Fort, linked to the shore by a sand path that shows at low tide.

Padmagad is a small fort on a rocky islet between the Malvan shore and Sindhudurg Fort. It is said to have been used as a base for building and repairing boats, and as a watch post that supported the main sea fort.

What makes Padmagad unusual is the way to reach it. At low tide a strip of sand and rock appears between the shore and the islet, and people walk across. At high tide the path disappears under the sea.

Only a few walls and parts of the structure remain. The visit is short and mostly about the walk and the view of Sindhudurg Fort close by.

Never try to cross unless you are sure of the tide timing, and come back well before the water rises. Ask local fishermen or boat operators about the tide on the day, and avoid the crossing in the monsoon.

Best time to visit

October to May, only at low tide.

How to reach
