Chivla Beach, Malvan
Beach · Malvan, Sindhudurg
A calm, curved beach on the edge of Malvan town, easy to reach and popular for evening walks and shallow-water play.
Chivla is the town beach of Malvan, a gentle curve of sand on the edge of the town. Because it is close to the market, the jetty and most hotels, it is the beach people visit first and come back to in the evening.
The water near the shore is usually shallow and calm in the season, which is why families like it. In the evening the beach fills with local people walking, children playing and small stalls selling snacks.
From Chivla you can see the rocky islands off Malvan, and the town's fishing boats come and go nearby. It is a good place to start a Malvan visit before heading to the fort, Tarkarli or the backwaters.
As on every Konkan beach, swim only where it is shallow and calm, and stay out of the water during the monsoon.
