Ganpatipule Beach

Beach · Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri

A wide beach of white sand in front of the Ganpatipule temple, busy with families and food stalls, with strong waves in places.

The beach at Ganpatipule curves in front of the temple and away to the north. The sand is white and soft, the water a deep blue on clear days, and the evenings bring crowds of families walking by the sea after darshan.

There are camel and horse rides, snack stalls and small shops near the temple end. Walk north and the crowds thin out quickly. The village of Malgund, home of the Marathi poet Keshavsut, is a short drive away.

The waves here can be strong and the beach shelves steeply in places. Lifeguards and warning flags are usually posted near the temple; follow their instructions and do not swim after dark.
