Devbag Beach

Beach · Malvan, Sindhudurg

A narrow strip of land at the tip of the Tarkarli coast, with the sea on one side and the Karli river backwaters on the other.

Devbag is the fishing village at the very end of the Tarkarli coast. The land narrows here until the sea is on one side of the road and the Karli river on the other, and at the tip the river finally joins the Arabian Sea. It is one of the few places on the Konkan coast where you can watch the sunrise over the backwaters and the sunset over the sea on the same day.

The beach is quieter than Tarkarli and Malvan. Boats leave from Devbag for the river mouth, the sandbar known as Tsunami Island and the backwater villages upstream. Fishing boats still work from here, and the morning catch reaches the small hotels in the village.

Devbag has many family-run homestays, some right on the water. Because the land is so narrow, both the sea and the river are a short walk from most of them.

The meeting point of river and sea is beautiful but the water there is not for swimming. Enjoy it from the shore or from a boat with a local operator.
