Harihareshwar Temple
Temple · Shrivardhan, Raigad
An old temple of Harihareshwar by the sea near Shrivardhan, often called the Kashi of the south, with a walking path around the rocky hill.
Harihareshwar is a small coastal village at the mouth of the Savitri river, and its temple is one of the best-known pilgrimage places of the Raigad coast. Devotees often call it Dakshin Kashi, the Kashi of the south. The Kalbhairav temple stands close by.
Many visitors also walk the pradakshina path that goes around the hill behind the temple, along the edge of the sea. Parts of it run over rocks and steps cut into the cliff, with the waves just below, so it needs care and good footwear.
The village has a quiet beach and homestays and small hotels serving Konkani food. Shrivardhan, Diveagar and Bagmandla are close by, which makes it easy to combine a temple visit with a few days on the coast.
Best time to visit
October to May. Avoid the cliff path on rough-sea days and during the monsoon.
How to reach
By road from Mangaon (Konkan Railway) via Mhasla, or along the coast from Shrivardhan. A ferry crosses the creek from Bagmandla towards Ratnagiri district.
