Dudhsagar Falls
Nature · Madgaon, Goa

A tall, four-tiered waterfall on the Goa–Karnataka border inside a forest sanctuary, with a railway line crossing in front of it.
Dudhsagar, the 'sea of milk', is one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The Mandovi river drops down a steep forested slope in several tiers, inside the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary on the border of Goa and Karnataka. A railway line crosses on a bridge in front of the falls, which makes the classic photograph.
The falls are at their fullest just after the monsoon, when the water spreads into a wide white curtain. Visitors usually go by forest jeep through the sanctuary to a point near the base, with a short walk at the end.
Access depends on the forest department and the weather. Jeep trips are often stopped during the heavy monsoon, and walking along the railway track is not allowed. Check the current rules before planning your visit.
Best time to visit
October to December, when the falls are still full and the jeep route is usually open.
How to reach
Jeeps start from Kulem (Collem) in South Goa. From the Konkan Railway, change at Madgaon for road or rail transport towards Kulem.
